Midjourney is famously bad at typography — until v7. Earlier versions gave you swooshy letters that spelled nothing useful and marks that looked great at 1200px but dissolved into noise at favicon size. Version 7 closed most of that gap, but only if you prompt for design constraints. Leave them out and you get a gorgeous illustration that can't survive a single-color print run, a business card, or a 16px browser tab. These 30 copy-paste templates are written with those constraints baked in from the start.
What Logo Prompting Requires
"Logo" is not the same as "illustration." An illustration can be complex, photorealistic, gradient-heavy, and context-specific. A logo has to function across wildly different surfaces: a 16px favicon, a 5-meter banner, a black-and-white fax, an embossed business card, a dark-mode app header. That functional constraint has to be in the prompt, not an afterthought. The moment you skip "single-color reproduction" or "vector-friendly," Midjourney defaults to what it does best — rich, nuanced imagery that falls apart the instant you need to stamp it on packaging.
Start with a brand brief, not a visual idea. The best logo prompts frame the design problem before describing aesthetics. That means naming the industry, the audience, the brand mood, and at least one constraint (what the logo must NOT do). A financial-services brand for retail investors needs to communicate trust and clarity before it communicates cleverness. A DTC beauty brand targeting Gen Z can afford to be more expressive. Feed Midjourney the brief context — it genuinely affects the output style, especially in v7.
Explicit constraints are your production filter. Use these phrases regularly and they will save you from output that looks great as a tweet but fails everywhere else: vector-friendly, scalable to 16px, no gradients, flat color only, solid black on white, clean silhouette. Include them as a block at the end of every logo prompt. If your brand genuinely allows gradients (some do), say so explicitly — otherwise, omit them by default.
--sref is how you build a suite, not just a single mark. A real brand identity needs a logo, a submark, a favicon variant, a pattern, and supporting graphic elements that all feel like they came from the same hand. The --sref parameter lets you feed a Midjourney output back as a style reference, so your second, third, and fourth assets don't look like they were designed by different people on different days. Run one tight logo concept, save the URL, then use --sref [URL] on every downstream asset. See more on this in our Midjourney v7 prompting guide.
v7 can actually spell, mostly. Wordmark prompts in earlier Midjourney versions were essentially a joke — you'd ask for "APEX" and get "APFX" in a plausible font. Version 7 handles short, simple words reliably, especially in sans-serif and geometric styles. It still struggles with unusual letter combinations, long brand names, and scripts. Always spell-check every wordmark output before using it for anything. If you're generating prompts for client work, triple-check. The AI prompts for designers guide covers more workflows for working Midjourney into a design process.

v7 Logo Prompting Power Tips
Brief like a designer, not a consumer. Before describing visuals, describe the brief: industry, target audience, brand mood, what competitors look like, and what the logo must NOT do. "SaaS platform for logistics managers — needs to feel precise and trustworthy, not playful" does more work than "modern logo for a tech company."
Require single-color reproduction unless gradients are brand-approved. Gradients fail on embossed business cards, single-color print runs, and dark-mode inversions. Unless your brand brief explicitly allows it, include no gradients, flat color only in every logo prompt. You can always add color complexity later — you can't remove it from a production asset.
Use --ar 1:1 and low --s for usable logo output. Square aspect ratio is standard for logo marks. Low stylize values (100–150) keep Midjourney from getting creative in ways that break design constraints. High stylize pulls toward artistic interpretation; low stylize pulls toward the brief. For logos, the brief wins.
Use --sref to lock style across an entire brand suite. After your first strong logo concept, copy its image URL from Midjourney and pass it as --sref [URL] to every subsequent prompt — submarks, pattern assets, packaging concepts, social templates. This is the fastest way to generate a coherent visual system instead of a collection of unrelated assets.
Generate variations, then vectorize the winner externally. Midjourney produces raster images. Every logo you generate for actual production use needs to be traced and cleaned up in Illustrator, Inkscape, or a vectorization tool before it goes on anything. Treat Midjourney output as the ideation stage — not the deliverable. Run 4–8 variations, pick the strongest concept, then take it into vector editing for production.
v7 spells better than v6 — proof every wordmark anyway. Midjourney v7 handles short brand names in clean sans-serif and geometric fonts reliably. It still struggles with unusual letter combinations, names longer than 8 characters, and anything in script or display typefaces. Zoom into every wordmark output at 100% before using it. When in doubt, set the wordmark in a real font tool and composite it with your Midjourney mark separately.

Start Building Better Brand Prompts
These 30 templates give you a structured starting point, but the real leverage is in learning to brief Midjourney like a designer briefs a creative director — industry, audience, mood, constraints, and a reference point or two. The output quality gap between "logo for a coffee shop" and a fully constrained brand brief is substantial, especially in v7.
Use the AI prompt generator to build structured Midjourney prompts from a plain-English brand brief — it handles the constraint language and parameter formatting automatically. For a full breakdown of what changed in v7 and how to use its new capabilities, read the Midjourney v7 prompting guide. If you're working across both text-based AI tools and image generators, AI prompts for designers covers the full workflow.
