What the prompt quality score means
The score is a deterministic 0–100 grade — the same prompt always gets the same number, with no AI guesswork. It rewards the eight traits that consistently separate prompts that get sharp, on-target answers from the ones that get vague filler. A score of 80+ is excellent, 60–79 is good, 40–59 is fair, and anything below 40 usually needs more structure and detail before you send it.
This is a fast, free prompt quality checker— a way to “rate my prompt” before you waste a generation on a weak one. It is not a content filter or a plagiarism tool; it grades the craft of the prompt itself.
The 8 categories we grade
Length & Detail
20 ptsEnough words to be specific without rambling. Very short prompts produce generic results.
Role / Persona
15 ptsWhether you tell the AI who to be ("You are an expert copywriter…").
Specificity
15 ptsConcrete numbers, names, and technical terms instead of vague words like "good" or "stuff".
Structure
15 ptsNumbered steps, bullet lists, headings, and paragraph breaks that make the task scannable.
Output Format
10 ptsWhether you say how the answer should look — a table, JSON, bullet points, word count.
Constraints
10 ptsGuardrails like "do not…", "avoid…", or "limit to…" that keep the output on track.
Context
10 ptsBackground on why you need this and who the audience is.
Examples
5 ptsA sample of the desired output (or a code block) that shows the AI exactly what you want.
How to raise your score
- Open with a role: “You are an expert [field] with 10 years of experience.”
- Replace vague words (“good”, “stuff”) with concrete numbers, names, and terms.
- Break the task into numbered steps or labeled sections.
- State the output format — a table, JSON, bullets, or a word count.
- Add constraints (“do not…”, “limit to…”) and one example of the result you want.
