Chain of Verification

Chain of verification (CoVe) is a prompting technique where the AI model first generates an initial response, then creates specific verification questions about its own claims, answers those questions independently, and finally revises the original response based on the verification results. This self-checking process systematically reduces hallucinations and factual errors.

Example

The model answers "Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in 1903 for physics and in 1911 for biology." It then generates verification questions: "What field was Curie's 1911 Nobel Prize in?" Answering independently, it finds the correct answer is chemistry, not biology, and revises the original response accordingly.
