Negative Prompting

Negative prompting is a technique where you explicitly tell the AI model what to avoid, exclude, or not do in its response. By specifying unwanted behaviors, formats, or content alongside your main instruction, you narrow the output space and increase the likelihood of getting exactly what you need.

Example

When generating a product description, you add: "Do NOT use superlatives like 'best', 'amazing', or 'revolutionary'. Do NOT include pricing information. Focus on factual features only." This constrains the model to produce grounded, restrained copy.
