45 AI Image Prompts for Social Media Posts: Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X (2026)

45 AI image prompts for social media posts on Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X. Each sets the ratio, safe margins, brand colors, and readable text.

September 9, 2026
27 min read

TL;DR

Forty-five copy-paste AI image prompts for social media, organized by format: Instagram feed posts, Stories and Reels covers, carousel sets, LinkedIn link images and cards, X posts and headers, TikTok and Shorts covers, quote cards and announcements, and product drops. Each prompt specifies the aspect ratio, safe margins for app UI, brand palette placeholders, a font style in words, exact quoted text under 8 words, and what to exclude. Written for ChatGPT Images 2.0, with Nano Banana and Midjourney notes.

AI image prompts for social media are briefs that name the platform, ratio, safe zone, brand palette, and any text word for word. Type "instagram post about coffee" and you get a stock-looking square with no room for a caption sticker. The fix is a prompt that carries the platform spec and the brand spec every time. Here are 45 that do, written for ChatGPT Images 2.0 and adaptable to Nano Banana and Midjourney.

What Makes Social Media Image Prompts Work

A social post has a fixed ratio, app controls covering parts of the frame, and a brand to match. Generic prompts ignore all three.

Name the platform and the ratio first. "Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio" changes how the model composes the frame. ChatGPT Images 2.0 supports 3:1 to 1:3, which covers every format here.

Reserve the safe zones. Stories, Reels, and TikTok cover the top and bottom of a 9:16 frame with usernames, captions, and buttons, so keep the top and bottom 250px empty. Feed posts keep everything inside a 10 percent margin. Sizes are in the table below.

Lock the palette with placeholders. [BRAND HEX 1] background, [BRAND HEX 2] accent, [BRAND HEX 3] text. The model treats a hex code as a target, not a measurement, but naming three colors stops it inventing a fourth.

Describe type in words and quote the text. "Heavy geometric sans-serif, all caps" works; a named font may not. ChatGPT's in-image text is readable and reliable when it is short: every [SHORT ...] placeholder below means under 8 words, exact words in quotes.

Say what to leave out. "No stock-photo smiles, no logos, no extra text, no HDR glow" is negative prompting, and it removes the clutter that makes AI posts look like AI posts.

The AI prompt generator and the visual-only image prompt generator write these from a sentence. For the wider playbook, start with 50 ChatGPT image prompts; for captions and strategy rather than images, the companion AI prompts for social media covers the text side.

45

AI image prompts for social media across 8 categories: Instagram feed, Stories and Reels, carousels, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, quote cards, and product drops

Generate at the ratio, then export at the pixel size. ChatGPT outputs up to 2K, so nothing here needs upscaling.

Keep Every Post On-Brand: The Style Anchor

ChatGPT does not remember last week's image unless you reference it in the same conversation or paste the same style block. The fix is a style anchor: palette, type, lighting, and composition rules in one block, pasted verbatim above every prompt.

code
STYLE ANCHOR (paste above every prompt)
Palette: background [BRAND HEX 1], accent [BRAND HEX 2], text
[BRAND HEX 3]. No other saturated colors.
Type: headlines in a heavy geometric sans-serif, all caps; small
text in a light sans-serif.
Lighting: soft diffused daylight from the upper left, gentle
shadows, no harsh flash, no HDR glow.
Composition: one focal subject, generous negative space, all text
and key elements inside a 10% margin from every edge.
Finish: matte, natural color, no watermark, no extra text.

On paid plans, Thinking mode generates up to 8 coherent images from one request, so a carousel or a week of posts comes out matching. On the free plan, run them one per message in a single conversation. The fuller method is in keep AI images on-brand.

1

Define the style anchor: palette hex codes, font style in words, lighting direction, and composition rules. Save it as a snippet.

2

List 7 post ideas, one per day, with the platform and ratio next to each.

3

Write one prompt per idea. Paste the anchor at the top unchanged and change only the subject, ratio, and quoted text.

4

Generate them as one batch in Thinking mode (up to 8 per request on paid plans), or one per message in the same conversation on the free plan.

5

Check every image for spelling, text position, and safe margins. Fix a single wrong word with the selection brush.

6

Export each image at the pixel size from the table above and load it into your scheduler.

Instagram Feed Posts (1–8)

Feed posts live at 4:5 or 1:1. Here is the gap between a vague ask and a prompt that lands.

Before

instagram post about coffee

After

Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio. Overhead flat-lay of a ceramic pour-over coffee setup on a [BRAND HEX 1] linen cloth: dripper, kettle, one filled cup, a few whole beans. Soft window light from the upper left, gentle shadows. 50mm at f/5.6, everything in focus. One [BRAND HEX 2] accent on the cup rim. Keep everything inside a 10 percent margin. No text, no logos, no steam effects, no clutter.

1. Flat-Lay Product Post

code
Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio. Overhead flat-lay of [PRODUCT] on a
[BRAND HEX 1] paper backdrop with three small props, one in
[BRAND HEX 2]. Soft upper-left window light, calm. 50mm at f/5.6,
all sharp. Product inside a 10% margin. No text, no logos, no
clutter.

What you'll get: A clean overhead shot with one on-brand accent.

Variation: Swap the paper for "[BRAND HEX 1] linen with visible weave".

2. Lifestyle Scene

code
Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio. [PRODUCT] in use in a [SETTING] by a
person shown from the shoulders down, no face. Warm late-afternoon
window light from camera right, relaxed. 35mm at f/2.8, background
softly blurred. Props pick up [BRAND HEX 1] and [BRAND HEX 2].
Subject inside a 10% margin. No text, no stock-photo poses.

What you'll get: A candid product-in-use frame.

3. Tip Card With Readable Text

code
Instagram square, 1:1 ratio. Flat graphic on [BRAND HEX 1]. Exact
headline: "[SHORT HEADLINE]", heavy geometric sans-serif, [BRAND
HEX 3], upper half, left-aligned. Exact subline: "[SHORT
SUBLINE]", light sans-serif. One [BRAND HEX 2] line icon lower
right. Clear, direct. Text inside a 10% margin. No photo, no
gradients.

What you'll get: Two lines of clean text and one icon.

Variation: Add a badge reading exactly "1/5" top left.

Tip

Readable text has three rules: keep it under 8 words, put the exact words in quotes, and say where it sits (top third, centered, lower left). Long sentences and tiny captions are where letters go wrong. If one word breaks, brush-select it and ask for that word only.

4. Before and After Split

code
Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio, split vertically by a thin [BRAND HEX
2] line. Left: [SUBJECT BEFORE]. Right: the same subject after,
same angle, same soft daylight, neutral. Exact labels: "BEFORE"
top left and "AFTER" top right, condensed uppercase sans-serif,
[BRAND HEX 3]. Labels inside a 10% margin. No other text, no
arrows.

What you'll get: A matched pair where only the change moves.

5. Minimalist Quote Post

code
Instagram square, 1:1 ratio. Off-white [BRAND HEX 1] background,
mostly empty, quiet. Exact quote: "[SHORT QUOTE]", high-contrast
editorial serif, [BRAND HEX 3], centered, filling at most 40% of
the frame. Exact attribution: "[NAME]", small light sans-serif.
One thin [BRAND HEX 2] rule between them. Text inside a 10%
margin. No photo, no icons.

What you'll get: A typography-only card, legible at grid size.

Variation: Invert to a dark [BRAND HEX 1] background with light text.

6. Founder Desk Scene

code
Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio. A desk from a 45 degree overhead angle:
open laptop with a plain dark screen, paper notebook, ceramic mug,
one [BRAND HEX 2] pen. Hands typing, no face. Morning window light
from the left, focused. 35mm at f/4. Scene inside a 10% margin.
No readable screen text, no logos, no clutter.

What you'll get: A workspace frame with no face or fake screen.

7. UGC-Style Phone Photo

code
Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio. Looks like a customer's phone photo:
[PRODUCT] held in one hand at arm's length in a [REAL PLACE].
Slightly off-center, mild grain, window light with a little glare,
casual. One [BRAND HEX 2] item in the surroundings. Product
inside a 10% margin. No studio polish, no text, no face.

What you'll get: A believable phone-photo look.

Variation: Add "on-camera flash at night, hard shadows".

Warning

UGC-style means the look of a customer's phone photo, not a fake customer. Do not present a generated image as a real review or show products you do not sell; ad policies and consumer-protection rules treat both as deceptive. If you upload a real customer's photo for editing, get their permission first.

8. Grid-Consistent Color Block

code
Instagram square, 1:1 ratio. Solid [BRAND HEX 1] background, no
gradient. One [OBJECT] centered, casting a single soft shadow to
the lower right from an upper-left light, bold. A small [BRAND HEX
2] detail on the object. Built for a 3 by 3 grid of matching
posts. Object inside a 10% margin. No text, no props.

What you'll get: A color-block tile that makes a grid look designed.

Stories and Reels Covers (9–14)

All six are 9:16. The top 250px sits under the username bar and the bottom 250px under the reply field, so every prompt reserves both.

9. Bold Headline Story Cover

code
Instagram Story, 9:16 ratio. Solid [BRAND HEX 1] background with a
faint paper texture, direct. Exact headline: "[SHORT HEADLINE]",
heavy geometric sans-serif, [BRAND HEX 3], all caps, centered in
the middle third. A short [BRAND HEX 2] underline beneath it. Top
and bottom 250px empty for app UI. No photo, no other text.

What you'll get: A text-first cover clear of every app control.

10. Countdown Teaser

code
Instagram Story, 9:16 ratio. Background: a photo of [PRODUCT OR
VENUE] blurred and darkened 40%, anticipation. Exact large text:
"[NUMBER] DAYS", condensed uppercase sans-serif, [BRAND HEX 3],
upper middle. Exact smaller text below: "[EVENT NAME]". Center
empty for a countdown sticker. Top and bottom 250px empty. No
other text, no clock icons.

What you'll get: A teaser with a hole for the countdown sticker.

11. Poll Background

code
Instagram Story, 9:16 ratio. Soft vertical gradient from [BRAND
HEX 1] at the top to a lighter tint below, calm. Exact question:
"[SHORT QUESTION]", rounded friendly sans-serif, [BRAND HEX 3],
centered in the upper third below the 250px margin. Middle empty
for a poll sticker. Two small [BRAND HEX 2] dots, nothing else.
Bottom 250px empty. No other text.

What you'll get: A calm backdrop where the sticker is the focus.

12. Behind-the-Scenes Story

code
Instagram Story, 9:16 ratio. Candid documentary photo of a
[WORKSPACE] mid-process: hands working, tools out, a little mess.
Natural light from one window, slight motion blur on the hands,
unhurried. 35mm at f/2.8. [BRAND HEX 2] appears once on an apron
or tool. Subject in the middle third, top and bottom 250px clear.
No text, no posing, no face.

What you'll get: A process shot with room for stickers.

13. Tutorial Cover

code
Instagram Reels cover, 9:16 ratio. Exact text: "HOW TO [SHORT
TASK]", condensed uppercase sans-serif, [BRAND HEX 3], top of the
middle third. Below it, a photo of [SUBJECT] on a [BRAND HEX 1]
surface, soft upper-left light, practical. A [BRAND HEX 2] circle
badge reads exactly "1/5" above the 250px bottom margin. Top 250px
empty. No other text.

What you'll get: Says what people learn and where the series starts.

14. Sale Announcement

code

text: "[NUMBER]% OFF", heavy geometric sans-serif, [BRAND HEX 3],
very large, centered in the middle third. Exact smaller lines
beneath: "[COLLECTION NAME]" then "ENDS [DATE]". Cutout photo of
[PRODUCT] with a soft shadow below the text, confident. Top and
bottom 250px empty. No starbursts, no extra text.

What you'll get: A promo slide without the clip-art urgency look.

Prompt 15 asks Thinking mode for the whole set in one request; the other four are covers you can extend the same way.

15. Five-Slide Numbered Set

code
Generate 5 images as one coherent set: Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio,
identical palette, type, and layout. Background [BRAND HEX 1].

5]", heavy geometric sans-serif, [BRAND HEX 3]. Orderly. Text

Variation: Add a closing line on slide 5 reading exactly "SAVE THIS POST".

16. Educational Thread Cover

code
Carousel cover, Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio. Upper half: exact
headline "[TOPIC], EXPLAINED", heavy geometric sans-serif, [BRAND
HEX 3], on [BRAND HEX 1]. Lower half: a flat diagram of three
connected nodes and arrows in [BRAND HEX 2], no labels. A small
right-pointing arrow bottom right as a swipe cue, instructive.
Text inside a 10% margin. No gradients, no photo.

What you'll get: An explainer cover that signals a diagram inside.

17. Listicle Cover

code
Carousel cover, Instagram feed, 4:5 ratio. An oversized exact
number "[NUMBER]" in [BRAND HEX 2] fills the left two thirds and
bleeds slightly off the left edge. Overlapping its right side, the

"[SHORT ARTICLE TITLE]", heavy geometric sans-serif, [BRAND HEX
3], left-aligned on [BRAND HEX 1]. Right third: one abstract
shape, an arc or a stack of rounded bars, in [BRAND HEX 2]. Text

The Same Prompts in Gemini Nano Banana and Midjourney

Every prompt above is plain sentences, which all three tools read best. If you have not settled on a tool, the best AI image generators comparison ranks them by use case.

Nano Banana (Gemini). Keep the prompts as they are, exact text in quotation marks, no parameter syntax. Its edge is editing a photo you already have: upload your real product shot, paste the prompt, and add "keep the product exactly as it is, change only the background and add the text." Refine in the same chat with "same image, but move the headline to the top third." See the best Nano Banana prompts and the Gemini prompt generator.

Midjourney V7. Replace the ratio sentence with --ar 4:5 at the end (9:16, 1:1, 16:9, and 3:1 all work). Swap hex codes for color words such as "deep forest green and warm cream". Text is its weak point: delete the quoted-text lines, add --no text, and place the headline in an editor afterward. Use --sref across a set to hold the look. See the Midjourney V7 prompting guide and the Midjourney prompt generator.

Tips for Better Social Media Image Results

Describe styles, do not name studios or artists. ChatGPT may decline a named studio's or artist's style. "Flat vector illustration with thick outlines" or "hand-painted 2D background with soft watercolor skies" gets you there without the refusal.

Use Thinking mode for anything with a layout. On paid plans it reasons about placement before drawing and verifies the output, so text position and margins get respected. Instant mode is fine for a photo with no text.

Treat hex codes as a target. The model gets close, not exact. Check with an eyedropper and shift the color in an editor when it has to be precise.

Fix one word with the selection brush. When a single word breaks, upload the image, brush over that word, and ask for it to be re-rendered. Regenerate only when the layout itself is wrong.

Save the winners as a prompt template. When a layout works, store the full prompt with the placeholders intact. Next month's version is a subject swap, not a rewrite.
